Due to the convenience of fast food, as well as other unhealthy foods, there has been a dramatic increase in obesity over the past 20 years. More than 64% of adults living in the U.S. are considered obese by NHANES, and it has been found that nearly one-third of U.S. children (ages 4-19) eat fast food every day. The fast food industry spends billions of dollars on advertisements causing people – adults and children alike – to pay more frequent visits to their nearest fast food joint whether it be a McDonald’s, Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, or Wendy’s. This increase in the prevalence of obesity is also, in turn, bringing about awareness to other long term effects health effects of obesity (such as diabetes). It is apparent that hospitals will continually be in need of more nurses, medical assistants, and doctors so long obesity is on the rise and fast food chains are expanding. Please get acquainted with the statistics below and stay ahead of the game and arm yourself with knowledge in the battle against obesity.
